An approach for a statistical model for the user behaviour regarding window ventilation in residential buildings | 2011 | English
Effect of envelope properties and thermal adaptation on energy consumption and comfort conditions through simulation of various ECMs | 2011 | English
The study, conducted in composite climate of India, exhibits improvement in energy efficiency of a conditioned building block with the use of energy conservation measures (ECMs) recommended by National Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).
Combined CFD-mean energy balance method to thermal comfort assessment of buildings in a warm tropical climate | 2011 | English
The paper presents combined approaches dedicated to assess the thermal comfort in a tropical climate. UrbaWind, an automatic computational fluid dynamics code, was developed to model the wind in urban environments.
The influence of thermal mass on the space conditioning energy and indoor comfort conditions of buildings | 2011 | English
This paper describes a modelling comparison between three very similar medium sized educational buildings located in the temperate climate of Nelson, New Zealand, each designed using structural systems made primarily of timber (actually built), co
Discrepancies between simulated and actual occupant behaviour can offset the actual energy consumption by several orders of magnitude compared to simulation results.
A mathematical model to simulate an unsaturated highly capacitive porous medium on roof (sand) is considered in order to predict its effects on building passive cooling.
The pollution problems caused by fungi in indoor environments are usually recognized at a stage where colony formation has progressed to a level already enabling visual identification.
We present a new analysis and optimisation procedure to aid decision-making regarding Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP) installations.
This paper describes the implementation of the room heat transfer model in the free open-source Modelica “Buildings” library. The model can be used as a single room or to compose a multizone building model.
This paper describes the investigation of the existing VRF system renewal using energy simulation. Both the renewal to the latest VRF systems and to proper capacity VRF systems were examined.
This study presents optimal control strategies of the system using a Generalized Pattern Search and Genetic Algorithm.
This study is aimed to implement Augmented Reality (AR) and web-enabled control for a double-skin system. The AR was realized using a marker, a webcam, LabVIEW VIs and a simulation model in MATLAB.
Climate energy index and building energy index: new indices to assess and benchmark building energy performance | 2011 | English
Two globally applicable energy indices, Climate Energy Index (CEI) and Building Energy Index (BEI) were developed as a means of quantifying the climate impact on building energy performance and distinguishing climate related and climate unrelated
Factors affecting ‘end of day’ window position in non- air-conditioned office buildings | 2011 | English
This paper reports a recent longitudinal study observing people’s use of windows in cellular office spaces and suggests that the thermal environmental parameters are not the only factors affecting people’s behaviour.
MEESG - A total energy demand prediction and optimization program for architectural scheme design stage | 2011 | English
In this research, a new energy-saving design method and a design-aided program MEESG (Most-Energy-Efficient-Scheme-Generator) are developed.
Identification of the electric chiller model for the EnergyPlus program using monitored data in an existing cooling plant | 2011 | English
This paper proposes an approach to identify the coefficients of the chiller model used by the EnergyPlus program. Data collected every 15 minutes from an existing cooling plant are used to evaluate the approach.
Building energy systems often consume 20% more energy than is necessary due to system deviation from the design intent.
This study proposed the Tikhonov regularization strategy coupled with the least-squares optimization to identify unsteady gas release processes from a fixed spot.
Significance of both internal and external boundary conditions on human thermal sensation | 2011 | English
This paper describes the basic features of a new advanced human thermal model (HTM), which is integrated with a building simulation tool.
Exergy analysis of residential heating systems: performance of whole system vs performance of major equipment | 2011 | English
This paper presents the evaluation of energy and exergy performance of several design alternatives of residential heating systems for a house.
