Mapping indoor radon-222 in denmark: design and test of the statistical model used in the second nation-wide survey

In Denmark, a new survey of indoor radon-222 has been carried out. One-year alpha trackmeasurements (CR-39) have been done in 3019 single-family houses. There is from 3 to 23 housemeasurements in each of the 275 municipalities. Within each municipality, houses have been selectedrandomly. One important outcome of the survey is the prediction of the fraction of houses in eachmunicipality with an annual average radon concentration above 200 Bqm-3.

Ventilation and radon transport in dutch dwellings: computer modelling and field measurements

In 1995 and 1996 radon concentrations and effective air flows were measured in about 1500 Dutchdwellings built between 1985 and 1993. The goal of this investigation was to describe the trend inthe average radon concentration by supplementing the first survey on dwellings built up to 1984and to quantify the contributions of the most important sources of radon. In the living room of newdwellings the average radon concentration was 28 Bq m-3, which is 50% higher than in dwellingsbuilt before 1970.

Association of air-conditioning with respiratory symptoms in office workers in tropical climate

Reported symptoms from 2000 workers in air-conditioned offices and from 500 workers in natural ventilated buildings have been analyzed using univariate and multiple logistic regression models.The conclusion of that study is that buildings with air conditioning have a higher prevalence of work related upper respiratory symptoms than buildings with natural ventilation though located in tropical country with high relative and absolute humidity rates all around the year.

Comparative study of the indoor air quality of naturally ventilated and air-conditioned bedrooms of residential buildings in Singapore.

For that study, IAQ measurements were carried out in 3 residential Singapore dwellings. CO2 levels were higher in air-conditioned bedrooms than in naturally ventilated bedrooms. Another survey demonstrated that almost all occupants using air-conditioners while sleeping presented one or more SBS symptoms than when using natural ventilation.

The influence of indoor environment in office buildings on their occupants : expected-unexpected

For that study the measurement of parameters in the indoor environment were carried out with a simultaneous survey with questions dealing with elements of the indoor environment, health status and health problems. That study reveals a significant role for the psychological state and psychological factors of the respondents of natural ventilation when sujectively describing the indoor environment.

Ventilation efficiencies and thermal comfort results of a desk-edge mounted task ventilation system

In experimental chambers, the ventilation effectiveness and thermal comfort of a task ventilation system has been investigated. The method and results of the experiment are presented in this paper. The conclusion of that thermal comfort survey is that task ventilation systems maintain the occupants thermally comfortable while saving energy.

Listening to the occupants : a web-based indoor environmental quality survey

The web-based IEQ survey is a tool that helps assess how well a building is performing from the viewpoint of its occupants. It is useful to detect and solve problems, and to rate a building performance.The survey conducted in more than 70 buildings has been widely tested and refined.
Three case studies are presented, demonstrating the different possible applications of the survey : evaluation of the effectiveness of a technology, information of the guidelines for a new comfort standard, benchmarking facility performance.

Survey on minimum ventilation rate of residential building in fifteen countries

The Minimum Ventilation Rate standard for dwellings is essential not only to provide occupant health and comfort, but also to remove and dilute the dominant pollutants. The purpose of this survey is to clarify and compare the regulations, standards or guidelines of ventilation requirements for residential buildings of various countries. The studies are based on the many literatures and interviews with the specialists in building regulation.

Thermal comfort and environmental quality in high-school and universtiy classrooms - Objective and subjective surveys

During a field campaign 13 classrooms at 4 different high-schools of the Provincia di Torino and 4 typical medium sized university classrooms of the Politecnico di Torino were monitored during winter and spring season to analyse the environmental quality. Measurements along with subjective surveys concerning indoor air quality, thermal, acoustical, and visual aspects were performed during class time.
The comparison of those results from the subjective and the objective approach is presented.
