Influence of night-time ventilation reduction on indoor air quality in Danish blocks of flats.

The paper describes the main results from a research project performed by "The Mobile Laboratory of Indoor Climate Measurements" one of the five mobile laboratories of the Institute. The aim of the project was to investigate if undesirable consequences occurred in the indoor climate when using an energy saving method consisting of reducing the mechanical exhaust from the "wet rooms" to app. 40 per cent of the normal performance during 12 hours of day and night.

Influence of the meteorological conditions on the inhabitants' behaviour in dwellings with mechanical ventilation.

Within the framework of the national research project "Ventilationin Housing Construction", studies on occupants ' ventilation behaviour were conducted in a demonstration building in Duisburg- Neumuhl (Federal Rep. of Germany) which also formed part of the project . Analyses were based on values measured from Jan, 1 - Dec. 31, 1984 in 24 flats with identical ground plans, all of which were equipped with mechanical ventilation systems.

The use of heating and ventilation was measured in several flats to find the relationship between the two. Measurements were taken in 9 flats in a 6-storey block in Berlin, with various types of ventilation system. Two flats remained uninhabited to serve as a comparison. The duration of the opening of windows of the individual rooms lastd on average up to 15 hours per day during the whole heating period. The tenants' own evaluation of the duration of airing differed immensely from this result.

The study, carried out in an atmospheric wind tunnel (reproduction of natural wind conditions, particularly turbulence), quantifies wind flows around built-up obstacles in their realistic location context, and the associated pressure fields. For various types of buildings (detached house, block of flats), the article presents in illustrated form the chart of these flows and pressures in general (mean values, standard deviations, extreme values), but deals more specifically with the wind resistance of solar collectors.
