This document describes preliminary work towards validating models that predict airflow rates between several zones. It is preliminary in the sense that it examines the quality and definition of physical data needed for a more testing and thorough validation. The exercise has used a version of the multi-zone computer model developed by Walton at the National Bureau of Standards with some modifications to the treatment of wind pressure coefficients.

An approach to the simulation of coupled heat and mass flow in buildings.

This paper describes the techniques used within the ESP system to represent and solve the heat and mass conservation equations relating to combined building and plant systems. In particular, it describes the equation-sets used to represent inter-zonal (building) and inter-component (plant) fluid flow and the method used for the integration of the non-linear heat and mass flow equations. By means of a case study, the application in a realdesign context is demonstrated.

Building performance and ventilation system.

With a dynamical model, the thermal behavior of a single office room is simulated. The model includes among other things the behavior of occupants, the heat production of machines and lights, the heat flux into masses, real weather data (hourly observations) and different HVAC and control systems. The computer program calculates monthly and yearly energy consumption and a statistical distribution of the room air temperature. It can also be used to investigate the time evolution of physical processes for short periods.

Ventilation system performance of vertical exhaust common-duct in a multi-story house.

Ventilation performance of a vertical exhaust common-duct installed in a multi-story house was analysed using model experiment and computer simulation. Pressure losses at the flow junctions in the vertical common-duct were investigated using the model experiment. The pressure distributions along the vertical common-duct in three different multi-story houses of 5, 15 and 25 stories, respectively, were calculated by the computer simulation.
