Ventilation studies in nine air conditioned office buildings in Singapore.

One of the significant factors affecting the quality of air in the built environment, particularly in the context of hot humid climates, is the design and implementation of the air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation system. While most building regulations would incorporate minimum ventilation requirements al design, it is often difficult to quantitatively measure the adequacy of such ventilation provision in insitu buildings.

Connection between ultra-fine aerosols indoors and outdoors in an office environment.

Measurement campaign was conducted in a controlled office environment during January 1999 to get indoor/outdoor ratio for particles less than 0.5 micrometers in diameter. Aerosol concentrations for diameters between 7-500 nanometers were measured simultaneously indoors and outdoors with two DMPS systems. Other continuously measured quantities included temperature, ventilation rate, relative humidity, air pressure and four inorganic gases (S02, NO, NOx and 03). The measured room was practically airtight and had a mechanical ventilation system.

Space conditioning using evaporative cooling for summers in Delhi.

The article examines the possibility of space conditioning the interiors of a multistorey office building in Delhi using evaporative cooling in the summer months of April, May and June. The temperature and humidity conditions obtained in a room of the building with direct evaporative cooling are studied by simulation. In this case study, the room is assumed to have a south-facing wall with a window and all other walls, ceiling and floor are interior partitions.

Computers and health in the workplace.

This paper describes research on the extremely low frequency (ELF) end of the electromagnetic spectrum from VDUs, because this is very close to the frequencies of the brain when it is concentrating. Our most recent experiments involve the use of an alpha oscillator which when stimulated with magnetic radiation from VDU's emits frequencies which peak around 12 Hz. The oscillator neutralises ELF emissions from the VDU by resonance thus acting like a tuning fork.

Identifying, quantifying and controlling VOCs in an air conditioned office building - a Singapore case study.

This case study conducted in a new air-conditioned building in Singapore was aimed at identifying, and assessing indoor levels of VOCs using a GC-MS method. The study identified 80 different compounds with Toluene appearing in all locations. Most VOCs detected were from building materials, adhesives, varnishes, sealing compounds, polyester carpets reflecting the age of the building and vehicular emissions reflecting the poor positioning of the air intake.
