Prospects for hybrid ventilation in Poland

Approximatly over 90 percent of buildings in Poland are ventilated in a natural manner. Thescale of problems in the functioning of ventilation in our opinion is serious.In about 3 million apartments inhabitants use gas water heaters, burning fuel in an openchamber. Therefore in these types of apartments the use of mechanical exhaust ventilation isforbidden.Experiences in using mechanical ventilation is not always positive (frequent complaints aboutthe excessive noise of the installation and the high consumption of energy by the fans).

The presence of high levels of urban pollution imposes at the international level the need tothink again about the type of ventilation systems in residential buildings. This has to be donein order to provide a better IAQ level. European testing programme investigating the operation of an innovative ventilation system for houses in temperate climates

In northern Europe ongoing changes in legislation that require increased levels of insulation,and the sealing of houses to reduce infiltration heat loss, has led to concerns about indoor airquality. A manufactured home has been installed on the NIST campus for ventilation, energy andindoor air quality studies. The primary purposes of the facility are to study mechanicalventilation requirements for U.S. manufactured homes and to investigate the systems used tomeet these requirements. In addition, the building will be used to investigate moisture issues,indoor air quality impacts of combustion appliances, and VOC emissions from buildingmaterials and furnishings. A first study of natural and hybrid ventilation systems in the urban environment

An experimental campaign was organized during the summer period 2002 in Athens, in the framework of the European RESHYVENT Project. The main purpose was to indicate the impact of the urban environment on the natural and hybrid ventilation air flow process in urban canyons. Field and indoor experimental procedures were carried out in two urban canyons, presenting different geometric and urban features. The experiments were organized for more than three consecutive days within three different periods in summer and on a 24-hour basis.

The hygrothermal behaviour of rooms : combining thermal building simulation and hygrothermal envelope calculation

The hygrothermal behavior of a building component exposed to weather is an important aspect of the overall performance of a building. Today the hygric transport phenomena through a building envelope are well understood and a realistic assessment of all relevant effects can be carried out by one of the numerous models and computer programs, that have been developed in different countries over the last years. The calculation of the hygrothermal performance of a part of the envelope is state-of-the-art, but until now, the total behaviour of the actual whole building is not accounted for.

Dynamic simulation calculations were operated using TRNSYS software applied to a low energy house. This article is the second one of a serie of two. The first one was dealing with ventilation. This one mainly concerns heating system and domestic hot water production through a gas boiler. It also gives general conclusions, some of them dealing with ventilation.

Mechanical ventilation in the new german regulation EnEV 2002 Maschinelle Wohnngslüftung vor dem Hinter-grund der Energieeinsparverordnung 2002

This article compares the requirements for mechanical ventilation systems in the new German regulation on energy savings (EnEV 2002) with those contained in the previous regulation (named WSchV 1995). It also gives information about the way to test and certify mechanical ventilation components according to this new regulation.
