Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Passive solar cooling for hot humid areas represents an important field for innovation, if we want to solve comfort needs in spaces (especially housing) designed to reduce economic, technical and health requirements.
Adarve A
Fungal-contaminated air handling systems have been implicated as a source for the dispersal of spores into the indoor environment, potentially serving as a route of exposure to building occupants.
Buttner M P, Cruz-Perez P, Garrett P J, Stetzenbach L D
The new Guideline VDI 6022 contains hygienic standards for ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
Funk L
The aim of the experiment was to study the efficiency of three duct cleaning methods. The methods used were ( 1) rotating brushes, (2) compressed air cleaning, and (3) wiping by hand.
Holopainen R, Palonen J, Seppanen O
Although a significant amount of work has been done to elucidate the conditions under which fungi will grow on the surfaces of materials, little information is available that quantitatively relates surface concentrations to airborne concentration
Foarde K K, van Osdell D W, Menetrez M Y, Chang J C S
The aim of this experiment was to compare three measuring methods to determine the level of dust in air ducts. Compared methods were a vacuum test, a tape method and an optical method.
Holopainen R, Palonen J, Seppanen O
In this study, the effect of duct cleaning on the indoor air quality and on the ventilation system hygiene in non-problem office buildings: was investigated. Six office buildings were selected from local duct cleaning companies' contracts.
Luoma M, Pasanen P, Ikaheimo M
The aim of this experiment was to study the effect of air duct cleaning on the indoor air quality. Three buildings in the Helsinki metropolitan area were selected for the study.
Holopainen R, Palonen J, Seppanen O
Samples of surface dust were collected from ducts before and after an HV AC system cleaning project in an office complex in Canada.
Collett C W, Nathanson T, Scott J A, Baer K, Waddington J
Basement problems are a frequent source of claims made under new home warranty programs. This Update presents the results of an IRC/industry research project on the performance of insulation systems applied to the exterior of basement walls
Swinton M C, Bomberg M T, Kumaran M K, Normandin N, Maref W
This CTU discusses the application of the rainscreen principle to the design of exterior walls, building on the concepts presented in Construction Technology Updates No. 9 and No. 17.
Brown W C, Chown G A, Poirier G F, Rousseau M Z
This Update presents guidelines for controlling the transmission of impact sound through concrete-slab and wood-joist floor systems in multi-family dwellings. It is based primarily on industry-supported research conducted by IRC.
Warnock A C C
A literature search was undertaken to assemble and interpretthe-best available· data that can be used for perfonning multizone airflow modelling in mid and high rise apartment buildings.
Edwards C
The aim of this Chapter is to break down barriers to concepts of natural ventilation. The study is part of a Pan European project titled NatVent that involves seven countries in the north of Europe.
