The EIE 2003 SAVE ENPER EXIST project (www.enper-exist.com) aims to address the specificproblems of the existing buildings in the scope of the introduction of the Energy Performance ofBuildings Directive (EPBD).In this project a specific work package (WP4) aim to develop a long-term roadmap for definingpossible measures going beyond the EPBD allowing existing buildings to become more energyefficient.The main objectives of the task are:- To give an overview of possible legal measures for existing buildings with illustration byavailable examples and proposals in preparation,- To give indications of alternative strategies for a wide scale improving the energy efficiency ofexisting buildings,- To identify possibilities for widening the scope of the EPBD in case of a future revision of therequirements of the directive.The main results of this task are presented. An inventory of the existing measures to improve theenergy efficiency of the existing buildings in several European countries is discussed. The main topicsunder discussion for long term planning are also addressed. The toolbox developed in this projectallowing identifying the relevant measures is presented.
