The Mechanical supply only (MSO) ventilationsystem has many advantages, such as good airdistribution, easy pre-heating of cold fresh airsupply and prevention of chemical aerosolsintake through wall cavity. However, thissystem has not been used for dwellings becauseof the risk of the condensation in the wall. Therecent developed extreme house buildingairtight technology makes it possible to use theMSO system for wooden single family houses. The target of this study is to evaluate the MSOsystem using the under floor cavity as supplychamber, combined with air filtering and preheating of flesh air supply. This paper shows the design outline of theMSO system developed for a Japaneseconventional wooden single family house andthe measurement results of ventilationcharacteristics and indoor thermal conditions ofthe experimental house built in AsahikawaHolltaido. The indoor air quality is alsodiscussed through the measurement results of166 houses with the MSO system. As a result, this system has the possibility to realize thewell-balanced air distribution and comfortablethermal condition. The concentrations of somechemical aerosols in the house are quite lowalso.
