HVAC (Heating, ventilating air conditioning)system is used to keep indoor air quality. Thepurpose of the traditional HAVC system isproviding a comfortable environment andventilating the indoor air pollutants. Recently, with the quality of life increasing, people havemore requests for indoor air quality. However,we found that the HVAC system still stressindoor ventilation, and temperature andhumidity adjusting. Therefore, this work tries toapply the feasible air-cleaning technologies toremove the indoor VOCs.This work tries to apply the activated carbonfiber filter supported with copper oxide catalyst(CuOIACF catalyst filter) for removal of indoorVOCs. Formaldehyde was chosen as the targetpollutants. The experiments were conducted in astainless steel chamber equipped with asimplified HVAC system. A CuOIACF catalystfilter was used in this simplified HVAC system. The total air change rates were controlled at 0.5and 1.0 hr-1, fresh air change rates werecontrolled at 0.18 and 0.36 hr -1, and relativehumilities (RHs) were controlled at 30% and70%. When using the CuOIACF catalyst filterin HVAC system, the first-order decay constantof formaldehyde found in this study rangedfrom 0.425 to 0.491 (hr-1) under differentconcentration of formaldehyde, from 0.425 to0.61 8 (hr-1) under different total air change rates, from 0.425 to 0.689 (hr-1) under different freshair change rates, and from 0.425 to 0.45 1 (hr-1)under different RH.
