11 June 2021, Webinar – Reducing the Performance Gap between Design Intent and Real Operation

Extensive research studies in many countries have found gaps between the design intent and real-world operation of buildings, which often lead to much higher energy use in practice than was estimated at design stage. While the reasons for such performance gaps are varied and complex, IEA Energy in Buildings and Communities (EBC) research projects have recently been making progress in resolving them.

Postponement of 41st AIVC ‐ ASHRAE IAQ joint conference in Athens

Because of COVID-19 uncertainty of conditions to hold a face-to-face conference in Athens in September 2021, ASHRAE and AIVC decided to postpone the conference and reschedule it for May 4-6, 2022. There will not be a new call for abstracts for the rescheduled conference dates.

Although close contact transmission is the dominant transmission route, long-range airborne transmission through small size infected aerosols plays an important role in spreading COVID-19 in indoor spaces. Ventilation is air exchange between inside and outside; it dilutes the concentration of contaminants, and hence helps to control aerosol-based cross-infection risk of COVID-19.

AIVC Ventilation Information Paper #42: The Concept for Substituting Ventilation by Gas Phase Air Cleaning

AIVC's Ventilation Information Paper no 42: The Concept for Substituting Ventilation by Gas Phase Air Cleaning has just been released! The paper discusses and evaluates the pros and cons by partly substituting required ventilation by gas phase air cleaning.

VIP 42: The Concept for Substituting Ventilation by Gas Phase Air Cleaning

Worldwide, there is an increasing number of publications related to air cleaning and sales of gas phase air cleaning products. This puts a demand for verifying the influence of using air cleaning on indoor air quality, comfort, well-being and health. It is thus important to learn whether air cleaning can supplement ventilation with respect to improving air quality i.e. whether it can partly substitute the ventilation rates required by standards.
