Development of a flow pattern selection algorithm for unmixed airflow

This paper presents an exploratory study on flow pattern selection in unmixed flows, resulting in aset of rules that are used to decide between flow regime during and before a simulation. The development of this set of decision rules had several goals: to define simple criteria to distinguish between flows, to assist non-expert users in the selection of the correct flow pattern model and finally to automate the choice of models during numerical simulations in energy simulation software.

Total air age in the room ventilated by multiple air handling units : part 1, an algorithm

Air age is an important index to evaluate indoor air quality in ventilated rooms. The traditional definition of air age is limited to the indoor part (i.e., the air age at the inlets of air supply diffusers is assumed to be zero). Total air age extends the traditional air age concept by considering the influence of air delivery process on air age distribution. In this paper, we report the development of an algorithm to calculate total air age in a room ventilated by multiple air-handling units (AHUs).

Development of a stereoscopic particle image velocimetry system for full-scale room airflow studies, Part 2 : experimental setup

Based on the algorithms of the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) we have developed, two digital cameras in an angular oriented configuration were used to simultaneously record two images of the same space of interest in a full-scale room. The room was seeded with helium-filled soap bubbles of neutral buoyancy. The 5.5 3.7 2.4 m (W D H) test room, which is used to simulate and monitor indoor air environment, was constructed within a large air-conditioned room

Designing for smoking rooms

The purpose of that study was to quantify the effect of the variables (previously identified during the first phase of that study conducted from 1999 to 2002) concerning smoking room performance under controlled laboratory conditions. In a test chamber simulating a smoking room, 27 experiments were conducted.
