FUNDAMENTAL STUDY ON PARTICLES, ULTRA-FINE PARTICLES AND OZONE IN THE CAR COMPARTMENT

The concentrations of ozone, particles (PM10 and PM2.5) and ultra-fine particles were measured duringdriving the automobile and during standing. Two ventilation modes were prepared; 1) all fresh air modeand 2) all re-circulation mode. The windows of the automobile had been always closed during thismeasurement. The indoor/outdoor ratio of the concentrations and the correlation among thosesubstances were reported. The concentrations of particles (PM10 and PM2.5) and ultra-fine particleswere dramatically had been increased while the automobile followed the trailer bus.

Connection between ultra-fine aerosols indoors and outdoors in an office environment.

Measurement campaign was conducted in a controlled office environment during January 1999 to get indoor/outdoor ratio for particles less than 0.5 micrometers in diameter. Aerosol concentrations for diameters between 7-500 nanometers were measured simultaneously indoors and outdoors with two DMPS systems. Other continuously measured quantities included temperature, ventilation rate, relative humidity, air pressure and four inorganic gases (S02, NO, NOx and 03). The measured room was practically airtight and had a mechanical ventilation system.

Airborne particulate matter within 100 randomly selected office buildings in the United States (base).

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has collected extensive indoor air quality data in 100 randomly selected office buildings following a standardized protocol developed for the Building Assessment Survey and Evaluation (BASE) study. These data were collected to provide normative data in typical office buildings for various uses including: a) basis for making policy and guidance development; b) hypothesis development and testing; c) input into risk assessments and environmental models; and, d) comparison of complaint buildings to "typical" building stock.
