An investigation of cooking-related pollutants in the residential sector

In the residential sector, there are several indoor sources of pollutants related to activities such as cooking, cleaning and heating, besides those from occupants, building materials, finishing and furniture. Considering these sources, the kitchen appears as the space in the house that has the largest number of sources, with cooking being the most relevant source. In addition, meal preparation generates derivative processes related to cleaning utensils and the environment, in which detergents, air fresheners and other categories of cleaning products are used.

Effect of Cleaning of Residential Ventilation System on Fan Energy Use and Ventilation Performance

Regular maintenance, such as the cleaning of filters, is important for the efficient operation ofresidential ventilation systems. The main objective of this study is to investigate effect of regularmaintenance on fan energy use and ventilation performance by using a test dwelling employingbalanced ventilation system. Experimental tests were directed with simulating the decrease of the airflow rates on terminals. Without cleaning, SFP based on the net air flow rate can indicate by 2.7 times compared with cleaned system.

Effectiveness of portable indoor air cleaners: sensory testing results.

The effectiveness of individual commercially available portable indoor air cleaning units were tested for their removal of dust particulates, tobacco smoke particulates and vapour phase constituents, viable and total fungal spores, pollen, and gaseous contaminants, and formaldehyde. A clean air test chamber was used. The results presented represent initial use. It was found that HEPA and electrostatic precipitator system demonstrated the highest efficiency in relation to particulate contaminants, with electret filter systems close behind. Least effective were ionizers and ozone generators.
