Draughts due to air inlets: an experimental approach.

Draughts due to air inlets are one of the problems to be solved for improving the global performance of mechanical ventilation systems. The CSTB full scale test cell "EREDIS" has been used to quantify draughts risks due to air inlets by measuring air temperatures and velocities with known boundaries of wall temperatures and fresh air. The results allow to improve the design of these inlets and to give advices for a better use in residential buildings. Works are now going on for comparing the experimental results to the ones calculated with a CFD code.

Assessing intake contamination from atmospheric dispersion of building exhaust.

The possibility of unacceptable internal air pollution levels can cause concern at the design stage given the potential for cross contamination between building exhausts and ventilation intakes is there. The complexity of airflows around buildings, however, makes it extremely difficult to predict the contamination levels at the intake locations. This paper reports a wind tunnel technique using a model of a proposed building to determine the pollutant levels expected at various inlet locations due to the re-ingestion of noxious emissions from its two stacks.

Outdoor air inlet without draught problems.

This paper presents a new technique for supply of outdoor air directly through external walls into a dwelling room without any draught problems. A new type of air inlet unit has been developed based on the experience from the study of indoor climate in the " Stockholm Project" . This Swedish experiment including six new residential buildings, where the indoor climate together with different solutions for ventilation is evaluated, shows that draught from air inlets is one of the greatest problems with bad indoor climate.
