The effect of different air inlet sizes on the air flows through a stairwell.

The effect of airflow through an opening (or a crack) on the natural convection in a stairwell model is presented. The flow is driven by energy input from an electric panel heater located in the lower floor of the stairwell. The work concentrates on the effect of the size of inlet opening by varying it while keeping the area of the outlet constant. New data are presented for the measured temperatures and velocities at various cross-sections of the stairwell.

Influence of turbulence parameters at supply inlet on room air diffusion.

Air flow conditions at the supply opening, which are used as boundary conditions in a numerical simulation, must be applied in order to proceed with the numerical solution of the air flow within a room. Among the conditions usually specified are the turbulence parameters, including the turbulence kinetic energy or the turbulence intensity and turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate. Investigators have used a variety of expressions to estimate these quantities. A review of these expressions is presented in this paper.

The effect of Various Inlet Conditions on the Flow Pattern in Ventilated Rooms - Measurements and Computations.

A test room which was built at a scale 1:5 to the original one has been used to investigate air-conditioned rooms. The original room was specified by the international project IEA ANNEX 20. A lot of experiments were made on different inlet geometries and air change rates. Velocities and turbulent quantities were measured not only in the inlet plan but also in the room itselfby means of hot wire anemometry. The ammonia absorption method according to Kruckels has been applied to determine the heat transfer coefficients at the walls. Qualitative results were obtained by laser light sheets.
