Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

This report gives a comparison of the calculation methods used in 21 European countries for energy performance of buildings. It comments the differencies and similarities between these national procedures.
Visier J C with several co-authors
The objective of this European Directive, which has to be transposed in national laws in European countries before 4 January 2006, is to promote the improvement of the energy performance of buildings, taking into account outdoor climatic condition

The National Institute of Health has conducted an extensive study on the issue of operating room ventilation system and its effect on protection of the chirurgical site.
Memarzadeh F, Manning A
The author gives practical advices in the design of local exhaust ventilation system (mainly hoods) to capture the contaminant and general ventilation systems to dilute the offending chemical contaminant to acceptable effects.
Knutson G W
This paper presents a simplified system based on a new air supply opening model along with a numerical method to accelerate and simplify the convergence procedure of predicting air distribution in ventilated rooms.
Zhao B, Li X, Yan Q
A zonal model has been nested within a multizone model to allow increased resolution in the prediction of local air flow velocities, temperature and concentration distributions between and within rooms.
Stewart J, Ren Z
The article describes the different types of cold beams used to cool rooms from cold water. Passive cold beams mainly exchange through radiation and natural convection ; they include no fresh air introduction.
Casale C
This article presents how ventilation and air quality in smoking spaces are being treated by ANSI/ASHRAE standard 62, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality.
Persily A
An analysis of recently published research results is provided, showing that if molds and the different compounds they produce can lead to some health effects (allergies, infections, potential toxicologic effects) when inhalated, these effects occ
Gots R E, Pirages S W
This article analyses and comments 5 papers presented at Indoor Air 2002 Conference (see Airbase records 14454, 14455, 14539, 14695 and 14697) about indoor air quality and filters, from the point of view of filter changing frequency.
Schoen L
The author explains that too tight building envelopes can cause bad operation of atmosperically vented combustion systems (e.g.
Cummings J B
In this paper, the objective of the authors is to investigate the use of artificial neural networks for the prediction of air pressure coefficients across the openings in a light weight single-sided naturally ventilated test room.
Kalogirou S, Eftekhari M, Marjanovic L
In this paper, the airflow characteristics in the outlet region of a generic vortex diffuser are experimentally and numerically investigated.
Hu S C
A CFD model that incorporates fan-performance characteristics was applied to investigate and compare the air-recirculation performance of the two general designs of unidirectional-flow cleanrooms.
Hu S C, Chuah Y K
This paper aims at comparing calculated and measured air flow distributions inside a naturally ventilated test room.
Eftekhari M M, Marjanovic L D, Pinnock D J
This paper focuses on the degree of flow enhancement achieved by an atrium which is itself ventilated directly by a low-level connection to the exterior.A theoretical model is designed to predict the steady stack-driven displacement flow along wi

Natural convection in a heated vertical duct is studied in this paper.First experimental study and computer simulations were performed in a scaled down laboratory model.
Letan R, Dubovsky V, Ziskind G
Badly designed stables may affect the animals' health, but it is difficult to design a stable with acceptable ventilation rates and indoor comfort without the right tools or guidelines. For the design of animal housing facilities, the authors used
