This paper insists on preventive actions in the field of indoor air quality with the upkeeping of air treatment installations. A precise diagnosis of the systems is necessary followed by an adequate cleaning of them : New robotized techniques have been developed for the cleaning and dust removal without any degradation of the materials that constitute the ducts.
This paper deals with digital airflow simulation methods inside a painting booth with ventilated pits. Air movements and pollutant dispersion are analysed when painting the underside of an HGV trailer chassis. For different booth ventilation operating conditions, the airflow structure was studied.
Thanks to the introduction of guidelines covering infection control, many facilities have been designed and built, and practical experience has been gained. This paper focuses on specific requirements for isolation rooms and operating rooms for design and infection control during construction and HVAC equipment. The current practices, standards and research relevant to operating room HVAC are presented.
Five papers dealing with ventilation, comfort, indoor relative humidity, filtration and air cleaning constitute this file on "Indoor Air Quality". All the authors have in mind to obtain a good indoor air quality coupled with energy saving .
OQAI (French Permanent survey on Indoor Air Quality) has collected a wide knowledge related to Indoor Air Quality in France . In this paper the state of the art is presented, it has been widened thanks to the result of 15 international surveys on IAQ , carried out in the similar way with in situ measurements. The results of those enquiries are presented . That international panorama will help for strategies in future OQAI campaigns.
Until recently the health community lacked a coherent, and compehensive dataset describing the extent and distribution of ill-health.Thanks to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database, updated yearly since 1996, a broad set of additional analyses can be done : 200 causes of death and illness by age and sex, separately for 14 regions of the world have been delineated. In 2000, the World Health Organization (WHO) has brought together about 100 specialists from 30 institutions worldwide to conduct a first large-scale multi-risk-factor Comparative Risk Assessment (CRA) exercice.Since all the
This paper describes a series of laboratory simulation experiments that provide evidence of the very considerable benefits of providing good indoor air quality - whether it is achieved by careful selection of building, furnishing materials and office equipment or by providing clean outdoor air at an increased rate- The conclusions drawn were then validated for other sources of indoor air pollution and in field intervention experiments carried out in call-centres in Northern Europe and hot humid tropics .Those findings have implications for productivity and an efficient use of energy.
That study gives a snapshot of ventilation and IAQ in a small sample of a range of types of new homes built in England since 1995 . Simultaneous measurements of ventilation and IAQ are combined together with records of occupant behaviour and household characteristics.
The study was carried out in three stages :
Validation of a tracer gas method (PFT) for air exchange rate measurement
Study of indoor air quality (IAQ) and ventilation in homes
Detailed study in 5 homes, with a focus on short term peak concentrations of pollutants
This paper highlights some of the results of ECA report n° 23 that aimed at providing information and advice on strategies for achieving a good balance between good IAQ and the rational use of energy in buildings. The major strategies are : control of p
The objective of the study was to investigate the human response to five air terminal devices (ATD) for a personalized ventilation system (PVS). All the systems were tested in an experimental office, they all improved the perceived air quality at the workstation. The round movable panel was the ATD most preferred for the subjects, among the systems studied : it provided high perceived air quality and thermal comfort for subjects. The thermal environment created with all the systems was assessed as acceptable.
