Reflections on the skins of different objects and the use of climate modifiers

The relation between skins as metabolisers and the innercontent of different bodies will be discussed.Examples from the world of plants will illustrate how plants respond to their fixed environment and their fixed supply of water and nutrients.Examples from the world of animals will illustrate that even though animals are mobile they respond in general classification terms to their natural habitat.The tremendous versatility of the skin of the human beingwill be presented.The response of different skins to seasonal adaptation and the element of time will be discussed.The above will be correlated with the different basic cooling principles such as shading, wind movement, ventilation, mass, evaporation etc.The importance of the use of climate modifiers in the worlds of plants, animals and human beings will be investigated.Parallels will be drawn between the above and the skins of buildings.The relation between cooling and daylighting will be touched upon.The correlation of indoor transition and outdoor space will be presented and some design conclusions will be suggested.A number of projects designed by the author will be presented.
