Natural ventilation in ancient building proposesand introduces some strategies for the modernarchitecture while representing the natural ventilationas a sustainable cooling system in traditionalIranian architecture.A sustainable development which widelydiscussed in scientific communities introducesenvironmental sustainability as one of its aimsand environmental sustainability focuses on theuse of clean recycling or renewable energy. The sustainable architecture that advances toa point in order to be allowed to reach its aimsand goals deems necessary the design off anybuilding with the least adverse effect on environmentas well as design consistent with nature. Thus by considering the traditional Iranianarchitecture, it is observed that Iranian architecturalcharacteristics conform to the rules of sustainablearchitecture; and can obtain sustainabilityin modern architecture by being reveled bycertain features of traditional Iranian one.Natural ventilation, as used a natural energysuch as wind and avoided using costly pollutingenergies, has mixed the framework and form ofarchitecture with nature. In this context, the operationof a wind tower as one element of traditionalIranian architecture to being about coolingis defined. Then, the paper present some approachesto the use of natural ventilation in abuilding by taking models of its general concept. This model can be used in areas with hothumid,hot- dry and even mild-humid climates.Key words: natural ventilation- climatic design-sustainable architecture.
