Ventilation in houses with distributed heating systems.

The LTEE laboratory of Hydro-Quebec, in collaboration with Canada Mortgage and Housing conducted an indoor air quality study involving 30 single family detached houses heated with electric baseboard heaters in the vicinity of Trois Rivières during the 1993-94 heating season. The houses were selected according to the measured air leakage at 50 Pa, so as to have a sample distribution similar to the distribution of air leakage of houses in the province of Quebec.

Investigation of a domestic heating system with ventilation heat recovery : performance and integrity.

Domestic heating systems with a heat exchanger are generally assessed for efficiency by the ratio of primary energy input delivered energy output. In practice, performance depends on all the components in the heat delivery system and on their matching. In the air heating system addressed here, the components include: the gas burning air heater, supply ducts, return ducts, heat recovery system, controls, fans, filters and pumps. This paper describes experiments conducted on a test house in Bath during the years 1991 to 1993.

Overall thermal performance of buildings subjected to various heating patterns.

Intermittent heating patterns, characteristic of Israel and other countries with a mild winter enable energy · conservation at the expense of very high peak energy consumption; · very low levels of thermal comfort; and surface condensation and mould growth problems. The paper summarizes a research project which included analysis of total daily energy consumption, partial energy during evening (peak) hours, weighted cost of total energy, improved thermal comfort, internal surface temperatures -of the external envelope, and surface temperatures of partitions.

Long-term Performance of Residential Ventilation Systems.

Several demonstration buildings were constructed in order to find technical solutions to energy saving and better indoor air quality in the 1980's in Fiand. Warm air heating systems were installed in two multi-storey residential buildings and in several single family homes. Heat recovery units were installed in many buildings. During renovation, mechanical supply air and heat recovery units were installed in two multi-storey residential buildings. Studies on energy consumption and performance of air conditioning systems were carried out in the demonstration buildings.
