Performance evaluation of kitchen hoods.

Kitchen hoods are frequently found in Belgian kitchens. Most of them have as only function intensive ventilation during certain cooking activities. It is expected that kitchen hoods with appropriate performances can also play an important role as devices for guaranteeing basic ventilation. The aims of the research can be summarized as follows: How do occupants evaluate the performance of existing kitchen hoods? What are the sound levels (dB(A)) in various locations in these dwellings due to the kitchen hood?

Application of tracer gas analysis to industrial hygiene investigations.

This article discusses the application of tracer gas methods to industrial hygiene investigations. It introduces the basic concepts necessary to understand the application of tracer gas methods to particular airflow and contaminant movement measurements. It provides an overview of existing methods which can be used to obtain quantitative data on a variety of airflow and contaminant movement related questions which often are of interest to the industrial hygienist.

Disadvantages of auxiliary air fume hoods.

VAV for laboratory hoods - design and costs.

Laboratories with chemical fume hoods can have HVAC systems designed for variable air volume (VAV) for the optimum in safety and cost savings. Various VAV designs are discussed with their associated advantages and disadvantages. Controls for providing VAV operation of fume hoods are outlined. A computer simulation of the energy usage for constant vs. variable volume hood operation is performed. The energy and cost savings are discussed along with a construction cost comparison of constant volume with variable volume.
