Validation of models to predict the thermal and ventilation performance of horse stables

Badly designed stables may affect the animals' health, but it is difficult to design a stable with acceptable ventilation rates and indoor comfort without the right tools or guidelines.For the design of animal housing facilities, the authors used the passive building simulation tool QUICK II, extended with a natural ventilation model, and an animal heat generation model.

Visualisation of CFD results in a virtual reality environment

This paper deals with a computer simulation of airflow and indoor environment in livestock buildings. Simulation results have been analysed and visualized with a Virtual reality visualization . The definition of virtual reality is given first , then the presentation of the 3 Virtual reality systems possibly used for the visualization, and finally a simulation tool.
5 cases were selected to demonstrate the different simulation and visualisation possibilities for people form the industry.

Dust load on surfaces in animal building: an experimental measuring method.

To investigate the physical process of particle deposition on and resuspension from surfaces in animal buildings, a test facility and a sampling method is established. The influences of surface orientation and air turbulence and velocity just as other parameters on the dust load on a surface are analysed. It is found that the surface orientation is the parameter which influences the dust load most. The dust load is highest on the floor but some dust is also sampled on the walls and the ceiling.

Investigation of the emission and immission behaviour of livestock buildings by means of wind tunnel modelling.

The keeping of animals in livestock buildings requires the ventilation of these buildings. Good climate conditions for the animals have to be guaranteed as well as little emissions and immissions from the livestock buildings. An important role for both of these opposite requirements plays the airstream inside and outside of the building. For this reason wind tunnel modelling and digital imaging by using a laser light sheet is applied beside other methods at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering Bornim.
