Indoor air quality measurements in 35 schools of South- Western Europe

The ClimACT project has been developed under the priority axis “Low Carbon Economy” of the Interreg SUDOE program. It aims to support the transition to a low carbon economy in schools. Environmental audits addressing energy and water consumptions, waste management, travels to school, procurements and green spaces have been carried out in 38 pilots schools of Portugal, Spain, France and Gibraltar. Indoor air quality and ventilation measurements were also achieved. The concentrations of 9 aldehydes and 10 selected VOCs were measured from passive sampling in two classrooms of each school.

Measurement of pollutant emissions in two similar very low energy houses with cast concrete and timber frame

This article is devoted to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in two low energy houses, with different frames (cast concrete (I-BB) and timber frame (I-OB)) built in platform INCAS of INES (National Institute of Solar Energy -in french: Institut National de l’Energie Solaire). In order to quantify pollutant emissions due to building materials and products, an experimental protocol consisted in stopping ventilation systems -”balanced ventilation”- of each house (a little before and during the measurement campaign), closing doors and windows, and not allowing occupant.

Sources of formaldehyde, other aldehydes and terpenes in a new manufactured house

Formaldehyde, less-volatile aldehydes, and terpene hydrocarbons are generally the predominant air contaminants in new manufactured and site-built houses. This study was conducted to identify the major sources of these compounds in a typically constructed, new manufactured house. Specimens of materials used within the house envelope were collected from the production facility. These were individually preconditioned for 19 4 days and tested for emissions of formaldehyde and the other target compounds using small-scale chambers.

CHARACTERIZATION OF TOBACCO ODOR IN SMOKEING ENVIRONMENT

In this study, five different types of smoking spaces and non-smoking spaces were investigated in orderto discuss about tobacco odor leakage from smoking area. VVOCs, VOCs and aledehydes wereanalyzed for characterization of odor. Additionally, the isolation result has been identified bydetermining ETS markers (nicotine and 3-ethenylpridine) based on ISO1845.Determined compounds were quantified and categorized into 13 groups, concentration between thesmoking space and non-smoking space was compared. In the most case, the concentration innon-smoking space was lower than smoking space.
