Project REED (Residential Energy Efficiency Design) is a Web-based building performance simulation tool developed under contract to one of the nations largest utilities, to help their 4.5 million ratepayers make en- ergy efficient design decisions
Numerical analysis of air temperature increases in urban area using the building-urban-soil simultaneous simulation model | 1999 | English
The authors propose a predicting methodology combined with simultaneous solution for Building- Urban-Soil system to analyze the heat island phenomenon quantitatively in this paper. Using this model, numerical simulation is performed in order
Simulation of visual context in architecture, the environment that surrounds both building and observer, is an essential but problematic feature of realistic imagery.
An integrated simulation system for the building services design and facilities management purposes is being developed by Olof Granlund Oy.
Modeling and calibration of lateral heat loss rate in measuring the R value of partly heated wall | 1999 | English
An experimental apparatus (in-situ thermal test unit) and an analysis method have been developed for evaluating the thermal resistance of the building envelope on site.
A major goal in computer-aided design research has been the development of integrated design for convenient generation and evaluation of evolving designs.
Numerical prediction of hot water flow and temperature distribution in thermal storage tank | 1999 | English
In order to evaluate energy efficiency of solar hot water systems, a calculation method was developed in this paper that models the unsteady flow and temperature distribution in heat storage tank utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Compa
Studyind thermal performance of split-type air-conditioners at building re-entrant via computer simulation | 1999 | English
The use of split-type air-conditioners in new apartment buildings becomes popular in Hong Kong. One requirement for their effective use is satisfactory heat rejection at the outdoor condensing units.
Selection and control of HVAC systems for optimal life-cycle efficiency using simulation techniques | 1999 | English
Design of air conditioning systems for efficient and effective part-load operation poses a considerable challenge, but one which is frequently not appreciated by the designer tied to traditional design practices.
M2M&Roofsol: a tool for evaluating the cooling performance of passive roof components using teh model synthesis method | 1999 | English
This communication presents a tool, m2m&Roofsol, which has been developed in the framework of a European project, ROOFSOL, dedicated to the study of passive cooling by roof components.
The LESCOM program using the Response Factor Method developed by the authors was applied to the direct gain system and calculation of fluctuations in room temperature.
The research on provision of computational support for building performance analysis has traditionally concentrated on the building design phase. However, computational modeling can also effectively apply to the building operation phase.
This paper decribes a research project to compare, using simulation, the summertime comfort and energy use of naturally ventilated and mixed-mode (limited cooling) UK office buildings.
Numerical analysis on the production of cool exergy by making use of heat capacity of building envelopes | 1999 | English
This paper describes a method to calculate cool and warm exergies stored by building envelopes and the result of a case study in terms of passive cooling strategy using the building envelope heat capacity.
When some faults take place in a thermal storage HVAC system, changing pattern of the temperature profiles of the thermal storage tank is useful to infer where some faults exist.
Research on calculation method of thermal design load in radiant heating and coolind systems | 1999 | English
A new calculation method is proposed for designing space radiant heating/cooling systems by improving conventional methods of steady and unsteady heat transfer calculation theory which has usually been used for designing of buried pipe floor heati
